The magnificent and historic five-star Abbasi Hotel in Isfahan is one of the oldest hotels in the world and also one of the largest hotels in Iran with unique Isfahan school architecture. This hotel is considered a tourist attraction in Iran. The Shah Abbas Caravanserai was built during the Safavid era in 1128 by order of Shah Sultan Hussein Safavid. He gifted this caravanserai to his mother, hence the Abbasi Hotel was known as the Shahs Mother Caravanserai in ancient times.
In 1336, the Abbasi Caravanserai was renovated and transformed into a guesthouse and renamed Shah Abbasi Guesthouse. During the construction of this guesthouse, efforts were made to conserve the remaining parts of the caravanserai and the buildings design was in harmony with the Abbasid era architecture. In 1345, this guesthouse was converted into the current hotel. Even in the current hotel, efforts were made to preserve the caravanserai-like characteristics of the building.
